If you’re parking on U.S. side of border:
Going south on interstate 5, take the off-ramp marked last exit in U.S. This will take you to a traffic light. Do not turn left or right. Go straight across the intersection to a street that veers sharply to the left. Immediately on your right you will see a large, well-lighted parking lot ($7 per day). It even has coin-operated rest rooms (25cents) near the entrance. Upon entering, take a ticket (do not lose the ticket!). Drive into the lot and go to the far left, which is near the pedestrian’s border crossing. Lock valuables in the trunk. Walk between a large duty free store and the border wall, and follow other pedestrians as they go through heavy iron turnstile gates into Mexico (60 yards from your car). As you walk into Mexico (50 yards), on your left you will see an official tourist office. Go in and pick up a nice, large Tijuana map and restaurant guide, etc. If you like, back on the sidewalk, walk straight ahead to the yellow cab stand (50 yards) do not follow pedestrians who go to the right walk to the downtown area. Show your map to the cab driver and point out OIM Clinic directly opposite a huge, modern mortuary, Funerales del Rio. At the entrance to the parking plaza are a flower shop and a coffee stand.
Driving directly to OIM Clinic in Tijuana
Follow interstate 5 directly to the border and drive across. After crossing border stay in the far RIGTH LINE. Take the first left-hand turn, marked to Aero Puerto. You will be on Ave. Padre Kino. Go past the first traffic circle (with statue of Padre Kino) and almost immediately turn right onto Ave. Josefa Ortiz de Dominguez. A half block down on your left is the plaza Santa Fe opposite the large Funerales del Rio. Both the plaza and funerals have large signs you can see from the distance. OIM clinic is at 1310 Josefa Ortiz de Dominguez in the Plaza Santa Fe and is above the (excellent) restaurant El Legado. At the entrance to the parking plaza are a flower shop and a coffee stand. Park anywhere in the plaza.
Public transportation from the San Diego Airport.
At the San Diego Airport, take the MTA public bus No. 992. The flyer downtown. At the downtown terminal, it connects with the red car trolley right to the border in San Ysidro (about 30 min). [All of this will cost less than $ 5, I Hear.] Take the pedestrian overpass from the trolley to get the other side of the highway, and walk into Mexico through a turnstile (follow the others). On your left you will pass the Tijuana Tourist Info Office—go in and get a map of the city. Now, keep walking straight ahead to the yellow cab stand and take a $5 (o a bargain for less) taxi to the OIM clinic. It’s directly across the street from the Funerales del Rio, which has a huge sign you can see from a mile away.
